A lot of people come to
Thailandjust because of low price. That’s true. Here one can find goods for favorable prices, but these are mainly home produced goods. Imported goods can have the same prices or even more expensive than inEurope. One can find at a low price for example clothes, handicraft, pottery, gold, silver, beads (pearls), jewelry, furniture, antique and art works.

Trade

Trade and shopping belong together in Thailand buy you must not take it always seriously. Smiling and crack jokes can bring a better result than angry barging and walking away finally. At most places, where the pricelists are out on the products one cannot bargain in particular. For example at supermarkets and official shops you cannot do it. Yet in some shops it is possible to stipulate a little percentage from the price, but as a rule it is an exception. If there is no pricelist on the product you can suppose that the shopkeeper puts many times higher price on item that the price he agrees to give you. If you don’t agree with the price, offer the price a little smaller than in fact you agree to pay for the product. After that the trader will give a better price and you give the price that is larger than your prior offer. So somewhere there is the midway where they find the way to deal. If you do not agree with the final price then calmly start to walk away. If the tradesman finds it possible to make a discount he as a rule runs after you and makes a new offer. If it does not happen hence the offered price was relatively real sales price and at the next place you already know the price of the thing and do the deal.

Fake products

One can find clothes and CD and DVD records with fake trademarks on every corner, especially in tourist districts. Lately the local authority has arranged lots of seaside raids to the seaside stalls and confiscated commodities worth millions of Baht. For some time the pirate trade subsides but when the pressure by authorities becomes less the pirate goods are back in the streets. As far as you know that there are pirate goods it is your choice to buy or not. Lots of fake goods are not of high quality and can fall apart when you first use them. If you still want to get an original product you have to go into large shop where you can find it with better price than in Europe.

Seaside trade

For a person visiting Phuket for the first time the first shopping experience is for sure at seaside traders. You can find all kind of goods there starting with sunglasses, CD-s up to clothes all with fake trademarks. As a rule the goods from these traders are drastically more expensive than in the larger shops and the quality is also problematical. The owners of the seaside kiosks pay high rent so it is expressed also in the prices that the client is asked. Even if one can bargain and the price is lower than the shopkeepers minimum, as the rule the price is higher than in an official shop.

Shops at the tourism region

You can also find cheaper products in tourist villages but the prices here are much more expensive than at the shops outside tourism region. In the tourist villages the price of land is very high as well as rent. As further of the beach your purchase the better is the price for you. For example in Patong at Soi Bangla Road located Ocean Plaza you can get good offers for original goods.

Supermarkets and large Shopping Centers

The simplest way to find low-priced original goods is to visit a larger shopping centre. The prices are made clear and you can not bargain here. The shopping centres are more or less the same as in Europe where are lot of different small branded shops.
