Kingdom of
Thailand is situated in the south-east
of Asia on Indo-China peninsula. In the
east it borders with Laos and Cambodia, in the south with the Bay of Thailand and Malaysia and in the west with
Myanmar and the Andaman Sea.
The capital of Thailand is Bangkok and the official language is Thai.
Up to the 11th of
May, 1949 the
kingdom was named Siam. The area of the Thailand is 513 115 m2, the population in
2007 was 63 million people. The monetary unit is Thai
baht and it is about 0,32 Estonian kroons.
Thailand is the only country in the
south-east Asia that has never been colonized,
therefore Thai people are carefree and satisfied and are
friendly with aliens.
Phuket
Phuket, the largest
island of Kingdom of Thailand is in the south of the state by
the Andaman Sea. The
word Phuket comes from the language of Malay from the word
“bukit” that means “a mountain” because the island is mainly
mountainous. 70% of the island is covered with forests. The
highest peak is Mai Thao Sip Song, that is 529 meters high.
There are several beautiful paradise beaches in the west of the
island. The most crowded and popular among tourists
is Patong Beach, which captivates people with its
frantic nightlife, favourable shopping opportunities and
wonderful food. During last year a colossal supermarket
has been built there with lots of beauty salons and dining
places.
The word
Patong in Thai languages means “a forest full of banana
leaves”. In the south of Patong are Karon, Kata and Kata
Noi beaches, which captivate with their beautiful nature,
white sands and light-blue sea - water. Near Phuket there
are also multiple beautiful coral islands with their
magic beaches, Similan and Phi Phi are the best known of
them. But there are lots of smaller islands where one can
relax in the sun and enjoy the warm
sea-water.
Climate
On Phuket there is tropical
monsoon climate and it is warm all year round and sea water
stays regularly over 25 degrees. April-May and
September-October are the warmest, September-October also has
the highest precipitation. The best time to visit Phuket is
from November to April when it is not so humid and mild wind
makes being here more pleasant. The average temperature then
stays between 25-35
degrees.
